Did You Know?

  • Special education services are not just for mentally and physically handicapped children? In accordance to federal law, there are currently 12 areas in which children can be found eligible for special education services, including the areas of Learning Disabilities (such as Dyslexia), Other Health Impairments (such as ADHD), Speech and Language Impairments (such as articulation difficulties), and Emotional Disturbance (such as Depression or Bipolar Disorder).
  • If your child is falling behind in areas such as reading or mathematics, that they may be eligible for additional tutoring services at your local school district for no additional cost?
  • If your child attends a private or parochial school, but requires special education services (such as speech language or occupational therapy) at their local school district, that the school district is responsible for transporting your child to and from those services?
  • If your elementary or high school aged child mentions that they "hate school" and struggles with hours of homework each night, that they more than likely have a disability which is impacting their ability to learn?
  • You can retain decision-making power over your child past their 18th birthday if they agree to sign a Delegation of Rights?
